The Rise of the Geek Fashion Designer

A month ago both Scruffy and I had the pleasure of meeting with the folks over at Dweebcast to talk about geek fashion and how it’s influence has grown in over the last few years. In addition to speaking with us, they do a great job of getting a behind the scenes look at companies like Her Universe and Castle Corsetry.  We’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of the video.

As many of you know, San Diego Comic Con happened recently, and with it came the first ever Geek Couture Fashion show. Scruffy and I were both lucky enough to be chosen to participate along with 34 other designers from around the country. I have to say, the competition was fierce!geek_couture

stslogopost

Happy New Year fellow geek fashionistas!

It wouldn’t be fashion if we didn’t change our look, and our blog is no exception! It’s been months in the planning, but we’re very excited to start the new year off with a new logo and general overhaul of the look of our blog. We love the upgrade, and hope you do too.

In the year and half since we started this blog, geek chic fashion has increased at a whirlwind pace. We say it a lot, but it’s true – it has never been a better time to be a stylish geek!

Marvel Novelty Jewelry Closeout Sale

As you might know, we’re big fans of 1928 Jewelry’s Marvel pieces around these parts as seen here, and here. Which is why, when I talked to them at Comikaze, I was extremely sad to hear they would not be renewing their Marvel license after the end of this year. Perhaps the only good to come out of this news is they’re now offering their pieces at 50% discount!

To refresh your memory, here are just a few of our favorites that they carry:

Geek Fashion at Comikaze

If you’re in the LA area and plan on going to Comikaze Expo this weekend there are loads of events that cater to geek fashion. Here’s what they have up their sleeve:

Tonight at 6:00pm will be a geek fashion show taking place on the Hot Topic Main Stage sponsored by Castle Corsetry and Espionage Cosmetics. There will be at least 3 different designers there, if not more! Here’s the event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/612042108841531/

On Saturday, I’ll be wandering around with my camera looking for anyone in great geek fashion. You’ll also get a chance to see my second Nerdvember outfit!

On the Hot Topic Main Stage there will be a “Year of the Fangirl” Fashion Photo Shoot sponsored by Her Universe. If you have a great outfit you’ve been wanting to show off, definitely show up. Due to the limited nature of the photo shoot, it’ll be first come first serve!

Also on Sunday at 11:00, there’s a Geek Girl Fashion panel featuring some great people like Ashley Eckstein (Her Universe), Mandie Bettencourt (www.geekyglamorous.com) and Crystal Clark (www.geekpinata.com).

You’ll also be able to check out Scruffy all weekend at booth #540. Definitely stop by and say hello!

Of course, there will be plenty of vendors there to whet your geeky appetite. I’m hoping I can find some great items to add to my wardrobe. Anyone else plan on attending? What panels are you hoping to checkout?
