Are you ready for the best month of the year? That’s right, it’s time for #NERDVEMBER! We had such an amazing turnout last year, that we just had to do it again this year.
It’s that time of year again ladies! Last year we decided to challenge ourselves and you with a month-long geek fashion contest we dubbed #NERDVEMBER. It was such a success that we couldn’t wait to run it again this year, bigger and better than before!
Earlier this year, Hot Topic surprised us with releasing their first designer fashion line inspired by the film Maleficent. Luckily, it wasn’t was their last. This week they released a new collection inspired by the upcoming film The Book of Life. In contrast with the last collection which primarily featured black, this one is filled with bright and colorful skirts, jewelery, and more.
It’s been quiet around here lately, and today’s post will explain just the reason! As many of you know, San Diego Comic Con happened recently, and with it came the first ever Geek Couture Fashion show. Scruffy and I were both lucky enough to be chosen to participate along with 34 other designers from around the country. I have to say, the competition was fierce!
Happy New Year fellow geek fashionistas!
It wouldn’t be fashion if we didn’t change our look, and our blog is no exception! It’s been months in the planning, but we’re very excited to start the new year off with a new logo and general overhaul of the look of our blog. We love the upgrade, and hope you do too.
In the year and half since we started this blog, geek chic fashion has increased at a whirlwind pace. We say it a lot, but it’s true – it has never been a better time to be a stylish geek!
It seems that more and more, we’re seeing high end fashion influenced by geek culture. Whether it’s jewelry, or shoes, the fashion industry is definitely looking to geeks for their next big idea. Such is the case with the NET-A-PORTER Capitol Couture line by Catching Fire’s costume designer Trish Summerville.
It’s what you’ve all been waiting for, the winners of our Nerdvember challenge! There were quite a number of entries, and some of you managed to go the entire month along with me! Just as a recap, here were the prizes:
20 days to 30 days: You’ll be entered into a raffle to win a $50 gift card from one (1) of the following companies: ThinkGeek, Hot Topic, Black Milk Clothing, Forever 21, SuperHeroStuff, Her Universe.
25 days to 30 days: You’ll be entered into a raffle to win a Sterling Silver Hunter Ring from Paul Michael Designs.
Now on to the winners. And they are:
One benefit to living in Southern California is our proximity to Disney. Which means, whenever we’re in the area, we love checking out Downtown Disney to see what new items they have in the stores.
As you might know, we’re big fans of 1928 Jewelry’s Marvel pieces around these parts as seen here, and here. Which is why, when I talked to them at Comikaze, I was extremely sad to hear they would not be renewing their Marvel license after the end of this year. Perhaps the only good to come out of this news is they’re now offering their pieces at 50% discount!
To refresh your memory, here are just a few of our favorites that they carry:
