We’re just days away from the biggest con of the year, and we’re continuing with our SDCChic series with some new outfits put together by Emily of The Stylish Geek! Emily is known for her geektastic outfits of the day, cosplay, and is one of the lucky few part of this year’s Her Universe fashion show.
Similar to Mandie, her outfits feature a signature piece paired with different accessories. Additionally, her evening outfits are inspired by cosplay, and even feature some handmade pieces made by Emily herself.
We hope you’ve been enjoying our SDCChic series and that it’s inspired you to put together some great looks for SDCC or upcoming cons! Today’s entry comes from Crystal from Geek Pinata. Like us, she covers posts about geek fashion, conventions, and has recently been posting geek chic outfits of the day.
Crystal approached our challenge by putting together outfits that include con tips and really paid attention to the location (like the proximity of the con to the beach!)
This week we’re featuring various geek fashion bloggers in our very first SDCChic. Each one has put together two day and two night outfits befitting of the biggest geek weekend of the year. Today we’re have Mandie of Geeky Glamorous fame. Mandie focuses on outfits of the day, local events, giveaways, and even had her wedding featured on SyFy.
Now that we’ve covered the great geek fashion events that are happening at this year’s comic con, we wanted to do something fun leading up to the big event. We contacted various fashion bloggers to participate in our very first SDCChic!
SDCChic is a showcase of geek fashion looks that are perfect for comic con. Whether you’re attending panels, checking out various events outside the con, or making an appearance at great parties, there’s a look that will fit the bill. Each participant was challenged to put together four outfits, two day looks and two evening looks, based on what SDCChic meant to them.
SDCC has finally released their programming schedule, and with a little more than a week until the geek extravaganza of the year, we’ve put together a list of great fashion events that you just can’t miss.
It’s been almost a year since Guardians of the Galaxy graced the silver screen, and FINALLY there are enough officially licensed items to put together a post.
Last week there was speculation that Hot Topic would be purchasing Thinkgeek. And honestly, we were excited for the prospect, especially given their recent track record. However, today, in an interesting turn of events, it was announced that Gamestop (yes, THAT Gamestop) would be acquiring Thinkgeek.
“GRAPEVINE, Texas & FAIRFAX, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME), a family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, and Geeknet, Inc. (Nasdaq: GKNT) (“Geeknet”), the parent company of ThinkGeek and ThinkGeek Solutions, today announced they have entered into a definitive agreement under which GameStop will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Geeknet’s common stock for $20.00 per share in cash. The transaction has been approved by the board of directors of both companies and will be completed by means of a tender offer. The transaction has a total equity value of approximately $140 million, including $37 million of cash and cash equivalents as of March 31, 2015.
Geeknet also announced that it had terminated its previously announced merger agreement with Hot Topic, Inc. (“Hot Topic”). Following discussion with both GameStop and Hot Topic, the Board of Directors of Geeknet determined that the GameStop transaction represented a superior proposal. Geeknet will pay Hot Topic a termination fee pursuant to the Hot Topic agreement, for which GameStop has agreed to reimburse Geeknet.”

While we typically don’t do this type of post, but there’s no denying that this could easily affect the future of geek fashion as it is related to Thinkgeek. Our hope is that Thinkgeek remains as it is, and continues to be a great source of geeky items. However, there’s still cause for concern given that this is territory that Gamestop has never been a part of.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this acquisition as it develops, and hope for the best. What are your thoughts on this? We’d love to hear them in the comments!
There’s no denying that the Spider-Gwen comic series has been an instant success. With the immediately iconic costume and great story, Spider-Gwen has cemented her place in the geek world. Which is why we’re excited to share these pieces from We Love Fine. We mentioned before that they had some great stuff in store for geek fashion, and here’s the next installment!
A month ago both Scruffy and I had the pleasure of meeting with the folks over at Dweebcast to talk about geek fashion and how it’s influence has grown in over the last few years. In addition to speaking with us, they do a great job of getting a behind the scenes look at companies like Her Universe and Castle Corsetry. We’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of the video.
We Love Fine is on fire right now! Literally on the heels of their Star Wars collection, they have a brand new collection just in time for the new Avengers movie. Age of Fashion, is the brand new collection by Catherine Elhoffer, a recent addition to the We Love Fine team. You may have seen her work worn by Ashley Eckstein in last year’s fashion show. We have an exclusive interview with her about the new line and what we can expect from WLF in the future. If these tops are any indication, I can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeves!!
