Happy New Year fellow geek fashionistas!
It wouldn’t be fashion if we didn’t change our look, and our blog is no exception! It’s been months in the planning, but we’re very excited to start the new year off with a new logo and general overhaul of the look of our blog. We love the upgrade, and hope you do too.
In the year and half since we started this blog, geek chic fashion has increased at a whirlwind pace. We say it a lot, but it’s true – it has never been a better time to be a stylish geek!
Once relegated to raiding the men’s and boy’s section for Star Wars t-shirts, or entirely DIYing your own outfits or accessories, these days geek chic girls now have a role model and spokesperson in the inspiring and stylish Ashley Eckstein, and a clothing line just for us in her groundbreaking company – Her Universe!
Now you can find a fashionable Marvel or DC themed top not just at Hot Topic, but in regular fashion stores for girls like Forever 21 and Wet Seal.
Popular fashion companies like Black Milk have made a thriving business just catering to stylish geeks, releasing four geek themed collections this year alone, with at least two more already highly anticipated releases to come in the first half of 2014.
There’s now a myriad of choices of where to get fashionable and high-end jewelry from, ranging from licensed companies like nOir Jewelry and Guild Jewellery, to fan-made pieces from now well-known and popular jewelers like Paul Michael, who took the Internet by storm with his custom R2D2 engagement ring. Panels on geek fashion are now a staple at most cons, and there’s definitely been an increase in the number of blogs, articles, tutorials and videos focusing on geek chic fashion.
And of course, as there always has been, and always will be, there are incredible themed and inspired items made by and for fashionable geeks that can be found all over the net!
Geek fashion is as unique and varied as geeks are themselves, reflecting the wearer and expressing a myriad of style types. While it’s natural for fashion trends to come and go, I think stylish geek outfits will always be around, and we’ll continue to see our beloved fandoms inspiring looks on the runway, in the stores, and in our very own closets!
Lindz and I are eager to see what 2014 brings to the world of geek fashion. We hope that you’ll continue to stick with us and see what we have to share with you each week! Along with our regular postings about apparel and accessories, we’ve got another round of Stunning Styles to share, more DIY Fridays, giveaways, contests, and we’ll finally be adding some video content too!
Here’s to a fashionably geek-filled year. We can’t wait!
Okay, I’ve gotta ask, the vest and tie Victoria’s wearing: got a link for it? They’re gorgeous.
Why thank you!
The info on the outfit can be found in the style post I did for it: https://settostunning.com/2013/05/15/stunning-style-look-33/
The vest is Ann Loft from many years ago. And the tie is by Indy Magnoli Clothiers.
Just stumbled onto this blog and am a bit obsessed. Love everything I’ve seen/read. I have a bit of a stretch question now…any more information on that Loki helmet shirt featured above? I have been looking for such a shirt and if it’s not still being sold (this post wasn’t written that long ago but Hot Topic shows no traces of it), am going to write a strongly worded letter to whomever I need in order to get myself one. With manners, of course! Thank you!
I would check out your local Hot Topic store if you can. Usually, they’ll switch up their online inventory a lot, but I’ve been able to still find items when I go to the store. Good luck!
We love getting comments like this and love that you enjoy our blog!
The info on the Hot Topic website says they’re sold out. If they were just out of stock and waiting on more product, it would read Out of Stock. Sold Out generally indicates they’re not bringing it back. Which super bums me out too because I hadn’t had a chance to buy it myself either! D:
Like Lindz said, check your local brick and mortar store to see if they, or another location, still have it. I would also check out eBay and Amazon.
