In addition to attending Dragon*Con, I also had the pleasure of attending a good friend’s wedding. Having just celebrated my own first anniversary, I thought it might be fun to look at ways you can add some geek into your celebration. Whether it’s a full on Star Wars themed wedding, or wanting to incorporate some geeky touches to your commitment ceremony, there are lots of options on how you can insert some of what you love into your own day of love.
Let’s start off with probably one of the more important accessories for that special day, the rings. One of the trends I’ve seen recently is using a fandom as the inspiration for the design of an engagement ring, or the ceremony rings.
The first really notable ring I remember seeing was this beautiful R2-D2 ring custom created by Paul Michael Design. Thanks to the popularity of the design, you can now buy the reproduction ranging from about $1,250 – $2,950 depending on your choice of metal.
If you already have the engagement ring covered, but still want some R2 on your ring, Paul also makes a pair of wedding bands inspired by that loveable droid.
After spotting that first ring, it seems as if the flood doors have been opened, and geeky rings designs are all the rage.
There’s a TARDIS ring
An Arc Reactor ring
A Star Trek Insignia ring
A Golden Snitch ring
And rings inspired by Disney Princesses
There are some many styles of rings that this post would get incredibly long if I featured them all. And if there isn’t a ring that already exists, you can always get it custom created.
If you’re more into subtle geekery, one great way to incorporate it is with an engraving.
Probably one of the most well known engraved rings in geek culture is the One Ring. If you get this matching set, you won’t have to worry about fighting over who gets to wear it.
These Zelda rings have the message “It’s dangerous to go alone” engraved on the inside.
Of course, you can’t go wrong with rings that say “I love you” “I know” emblazoned on them.
Do you have any personal favorites when it comes to geeky rings? Did you or your partner get something specially made for the occasion? We’d love for you to share it with us either in the comments, on Twitter, or our Facebook page. I hope you enjoyed this post, and I can’t wait to do more in the future!
