Step Out In (Geek) Style

Last week news was released that Reebok would be releasing a line of Marvel-themed sneakers, complete with classic comic artwork on the insoles! Geek themed shoes aren’t uncommon, what with Reebok’s Voltron shoes in the past, and currently Adidas’s Star Wars shoes, and Converse’s DC Comic line.

But what makes these Marvel Reebok shoes extra awesome is the fact that the line includes some shoes specifically for the ladies!

Except for a few of the DC shoes also being available in women’s shoes, women in general have been woefully overlooked when it comes to the geek shoe market. Instead, if you’re like me, you desperately try to track down, say, a Men’s 6.5 in the shoe you love so you can actually wear it!

Seeing more and more geek themed shoes coming to market has me very excited for the future. Clearly companies are realizing there’s a market out there for shoes like these, and hopefully they’ll start to understand, sooner rather than later, that women want these shoes too and start to not only make more of them in women’s sneaker styles, but also, dare I hope, in heel styles.

While I am thrilled that Reebok has made the effort to include shoes just for women in their Marvel line…I’m honestly a little underwhelmed by them. The two shoes that are for women are, big surpise, two female Marvel characters – Black Widow and Emma Frost. Frankly the only shoe that had me excited in the line was the Captain America one, so clearly I’ll be searching for a Men’s 6.5 yet again.

But still, Reebok including shoes for women is a pretty big deal, and surely high sales of the Black Widow and Emma Frost shoes will impress upon them, and other shoe companies, the need to bring more and more shoes to women!

Okay, so maybe I will buy that Black Widow one…
